The object we have got is Picture Book for the French Red Cross by Edmund Dulac,1915.During WW1 Dulac prodeced story books to support the war effort.This book of fairy tales was produced to provide relief for the French Red Cross.
Dulac was French but became a naturalised British citizen after he fled his home country during the war.
His delicate,detailed and vibrant illustrations provide pictures for traditional fairy tales from the allied nations.The illustrations as well as the tales themselves provide lots of inspiration for any kind of project from architecture to poster design.
The cover designs for this book are also beautiful and offer a style of illustration and type that could be applied in other areas.
Downton Abbey: Award for costume designer Caroline McCall
Costume designer Caroline McCall from Portadown, County Armagh, has won an award at the 15th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills, California.Ms McCall won the Outstanding Period/Fantasy costume for a television series award for her work on Downton Abbey.She was the head costume designer on the last series of the show.Ms McCall started off her career at art college in Belfast before moving to the Wimbledon School of Art. She then trained with the BBC.
